Land expansion
When we complete Saemangeum Reclamation Project which started to overcome harsh natural environment as like small country with the fourth highest density of population and flat land of less 30% among whole land, new land through Saemangeum Reclamation Project is 140 times larger than Youido, it is the size of lands of 2 pyeong and freshwater of 1 pyeong to all each Korean.
Creating grand high-quality farmland
On fertile land through Saemangeum Reclamation Project, we can cultivate a variety of horticultural products and feed crops. We need absolutely large scale lands and collective high-quality farmland to securing agricultural competitiveness from market opening pressure and less than 30% degree of food self-support
Securing water resource : billion tons per year
Korea is the only one country of water-stressed in Asia classified by UN. According to the UN report, Korea will experience water stress earlier than 2006. When Saemangeum Reclamation Project complete, we can secure billion tons of water resource which is same volume of 200 mesoscale reservoirs so that we can prepare for our water-stressed future.
Eliminating of flooded district
The catchment of Mankyeong river of Seamangeum area has been experienced frequent flood in about 12,000ha at every year. Saemangeum sea dike will prevent the impact of flood and will save approximately budget of 400 billion KRW per year which paid for flood treatment.
Improving overland transport and creating comprehensive tourist district
When sea dike of 33km complete, the transport distance between Gunsan and Buan will be reduced 66k and will improve transport environment as connecting land and islands. Also grand land and lakes created from Saemangeum Reclamation Project will contribute to revitalize local economy and form world-class tourist district with natural tourist attractions such as Byeonsan Peninsula National Park
